Newborn Photography Packages – Digital Only Photographers VS Print Photography Studios

Digital Only Photographers, Why they aren’t always the best option when it comes to Newborn Photography Packages

In today’s world, digital photography has become increasingly popular, making it possible for everyone to own a camera and take pictures at any time with their phones. The rise of digital photography has caused photographers to fall into one of two categories: photographers that only offer digital files or what is commonly known as “shoot and burn” photographers, and photographers that offer full-service print photographers or a print photography studio. It is hard to know what newborn photography packages are best for you. While shoot and burn photography may seem like a cost-effective option, it’s important to understand that it may not always be the best choice.

Because of social media and the ease of access to phones that have put an emphasis on the quality of their cameras, we have learned to take more photos and share them digitally. Having a phone on your hip has really made documenting your child’s everyday life so much easier. Having the ability to post photos so that everyone we care about can see them with ease, has changed the game when it comes to people feeling they need to print their images. Many have folders and folders full of images on their computer, photos that they dont even remember taking. But do we really need all of those images? It is nice to have when they are candid lifestyle images you have taken yourself, but do you really know what to do with a photoshop file?

So why are print newborn photography packages the best?

The Digital File

Do you remember CD’s? Well I bet if you asked around, the majority of young parents would look at you sideways. Technology is ever changing, banking on a processed jpeg on a thumb drive that will only last for 5 years doesn’t seem like the safest plan for such important memories. Do you remember going to have your portraits taken as a child? If not ask your parents or grandparents about it. Before the digital age everyone went to a professional photographer to purchase prints and art work. When your child has their yearly school photo taken, what do you do, you buy prints! So why have people changed what they expect from their photographers? Just because these type of shoot and burn photographers offer an inferior experiance so that they dont have to do as much work, doesn’t mean you have to accept that from them.

Having a digital file of your professionally taken images is important. We all know you want to share your photos on social media and enjoy them on your phone. A photographer should do more than hand over some files and give you a job to do without putting any care into if they are ever looked at again. The purpose of investing in professional photography is to ENJOY the images and re-live the moments. This can’t happen when they are sitting on your computer.

Printing

The problem with shoot and burn photography is that it ONLY offers digital files. This can put the responsibility or printing on you, adding another job to your LONG list of things to do. Many times families who receive digital files will fully intend to print their images. The task is daunting and many times forgotten. Digital files are often not high enough quality to print and you can loose them forever if they are not backed up properly.

In addition, shoot and burn photographers usually do not offer any assistance with printing. This can lead to a range of issues, from the wrong size or quality to the incorrect color balance. Clients are not the experts and dont really know how to print a professionally edited image. Although many options are out their to print your images easily, those companies fail to mention that mass printing facilities tend to undo all of the hard work that your photographer has done when retouching your image and correcting shadows, highlights and color tones.

When I was beginning my photography carrier and didn’t know any better. I had client after client contact me showing me the horrible prints and products they purchased on some of these consumer-level printing companies that advertise to non-professionals. They were upset and didn’t understand why the images looked so different than the images I edited for them. This is because these images are mass-printed in large batches with no strict printing profile to keep the color profiles consistent. In addition they print on cheap materials that aren’t made to last or stand the test of time. This may be fine for images taken on an iPhone, but not for professionally taken and meticulously edited images.

Full-Service

On the other hand, a full-service print photography studio offers a range of services that go beyond just taking pictures. These photographers offer professional printing services, and the quality of the prints should be of a much higher standard than those printed by consumer-labs. Print photography studios offer a range of other high quality heirloom products. Such as hand bound leather albums, fine-art canvases, and professionally framed prints with museum anti-glare glass. All of these wonderful products that you can display in your home for years to come and pass on for generations.

One of the main advantages of using a full-service print photography studio is that they can guide you through the entire process. Starting with choosing the perfect images to the delivering the finished product. They offer a personalized service that caters to your specific needs, and take the time to understand what you want to achieve with your images. Tangible Memories

Furthermore, investing in a full-service print photography studio means that you will have tangible memories that you will pass down from generation to generation. You’ll be able to share these memories with your children, your grandchildren, and their children, creating a legacy that will last forever. The photos that you have printed will become more valuable over time. Your family will treasure them for years to come. Having happy family photos on your walls as you children grown up remind them every day how much you love them. The ability to sit down with your daughter and her children when she is older and share the beautiful images you had taken of her when she was a newborn or toddler. Special moments that you cant place a value on, these moments you can recreate.

The Experience

Another benefit of a full-service print photography studio is that they offer a level of customer service that is unparalleled. They offer a high level of communication, and they are always available to answer any questions or concerns that you may have. These studios take the time to understand your needs and requirements, and they work hard to exceed your expectations. They also back-up your images properly, so you do not have to worry about losing them. Your photographer will educate you about they types of product that are best for you. Most photographers will even install your images in your home so you don’t have to do it. Photographers are the professionals, the specialists and we dont expect you to lift a finger.

While it may be tempting to choose a cheaper option, shoot and burn photography can be a risky choice. It’s important to remember that the memories are precious and deserve to printed so that you can enjoy them.
