Embarrassing Questions You Want to Ask Your Newborn Baby Photographer

As a new parent, it’s understandable that you may have a lot of questions and concerns about newborn photography. After all, this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you want to get just right. It’s important to remember that they are there to help and support you and they have heard it all. In this blog post, we’ll cover some embarrassing questions you may want to ask your newborn baby photographer.

Questions

Can I nurse my baby during the session, what if I need to pump?

Newborn photography sessions can take several hours, and it’s common for parents to get hungry during that time and we know your baby will be too. Newborn baby photographers expect the newborns to need a feeding and sometimes two or three while you are at their studio. They will have an area for you to feed your baby and pump if need be. Most of the time the photographer will be he only other person in the studio, so you dont have to sorry about needing any privacy, but if you do your photographer will have a private area for you to use to pump and feed or will step out if you feel you need privacy.

Can I take a nap or catch-up on work during the session?

It’s completely understandable that parents are exhausted, sleep deprived or behind on emails or work. Baby photographers expect you to relax, in-fact they will feel happy if they are able to give you a break. Remember the majority of the session will be just working with your infant. Although you are more than welcome to watch and enjoy you can take this time to relax, catch up on some sleep or watch some TV!

What I forget to bring a pacifier or diapers?

Things happen, life with an infant is stressful. If you forget ANYTHING your newborn baby photographer will most likely have everything on hand that you might need. At Imprinted Photography we have diapers, wipes, pacifiers, breast bad, sanitary pads, snacks, and drinks available so that you have everything you need, no matter what you forget at home.

Can you hide my postpartum belly and any other flaws in the photos?

It’s common for new moms to feel self-conscious about their postpartum bodies. While it’s important to embrace and celebrate your body as it is, it’s understandable to want to look your best in the photos. If you have concerns about your appearance, talk to your baby photographer. They should be able to make minor retouches to the photos to address any concerns you have. Here at IP we take the majority of our parent shots from the waist up, but we also will work with you to make sure you love the way you look in every image you choose!

Since my baby is naked for some of the shots, what if she or he poops or pees everywhere?

Newborn babies pee and poop! As a new parent I am sure you have had you fair share of accidents when you were least expecting them. Newborn baby photographers prepare for any accidents that can occur. We take off the diaper at our own risk, and have tricks and clean-up ready in the case of an accident. It isn’t a newborn session unless there is a little pee!

When my baby is nude, will you be able to see her private parts?

No, a Newborn baby photographer may take your baby’s diaper off and pose them with out clothing but they will make sure that your baby’s privates are not showing in the final photos. If you can see you baby’s bits while the photographer is taking photos, remember that you do not see what the photographer sees. Any professional photographer will take your newborns photos in the perfect angle so that the photos are flattering and appropriate.

Why are you wearing all black?

This is always a funny question. Newborn baby photographers tend to wear all black during their sessions and clients always wonder why. They do this so that they dont reflect light or create color casts on their subjects. If your baby has his or her’s eyes open and your photographer is standing close as is common with newborn photography, you are less likely to see their reflection in the final photos.

Can I take photos with my phone while you are working?

Newborn baby photographers love having clients involved in sessions. At Imprinted Photography we do allow a couple of “behind the scenes” photos taken with clients phones, but we ask that if you do take them you make sure to explain that they are not the final images and please tag us! We want you to be surprised and love your final images but we also love seeing the behind the scenes photos taken by clients and we know you love to have them too!
